Cutting Cancer
Medical care innovation working to reduce the risk of cancer.
Data today demonstrate the increasing numbers of cancer positive patients have resulted in an alerting outcry for help and medical research. The fight to stop cancer has been a waging war for millions of people. With the help of research and medical innovation, it seems like we are getting closer and closer to detect cancer and eliminate the risk of future threats.
Cancer is such a big problem today that people are fighting to increase the speed of cancer research, one example is the Cancer Moonshot initiative in the United States, their focus is to Marshall other research resources and injects it directly into cancer research.
While other innovative initiatives are being developed the new surgical knife can instantly detect cancer. The electrosurgical knife was the first innovation of its kind in medical procedures during surgery and its still being used today since the 1920’s. The knife uses an electrical current that enabled it to heat up and cut through tissue with minimal blood loss. In short the iKnife is an electrosurgical knife with the ability to detect healthy tissue from the unhealthy. This innovation can be applied in a variety of different surgeries and serve as an early detection device.
The way to test for cancer is a time-consuming process, now it can be detected on the table.
The way it works is when the electro-scalpel cut tissue, it creates a smoke, (if you have any watched medical series or programs then you might have an idea) this smoke is sucked in with an extraction device mounted on the knife and captures the vapor. The results are analyzed within seconds, informing the doctor which kind of tissue it is. The database contains more than a thousand types of cancer which compare the tissue for positive results.
This database is ongoing and growing with incoming research and data every day making medical technology better to use in the field for doctors and medical professionals. The iKnife is already in use but still underway of testing and will be available in the near future.
